About Me
Born in Albemarle County and now a resident of Waynesboro Virginia, Joe Sheridan is an artist, craftsman, teacher and curator. He has been living and creating works of art in central Virginia since he graduated with a Masters Degree in Fine Arts from James Madison University. Joe was the Private Curator of Art for John Kluge at Morven Estate for fourteen years and has worked as Preparator and Art Consultant at the University of Virginia's Art Museum, Staniar Gallery at Washington and Lee University and the Hunt Gallery at Mary Baldwin College. Joe also Curated “Artisans and Agroecology: The Cultural Connection between Craft & Rural Life” exhibition for the Artisan Center of Virginia, at Mary Baldwin College in 2012. Sheridan also teaches Studio Art, Printmaking and Rustic Furniture Workshops, having been an adjunct instructor at James Madison University, Washington & Lee University, Mary Baldwin College, Piedmont Virginia Community College and was Director of UVA Art Museum's Summer Arts Program. In addition to creating his own two dimensional artwork, Sheridan is also well known in the region as a craftsman of rustic furniture. In 2015 Sheridan received the prestigious “Virginia Juried Master Artisans Award” from the Artisan Center of Virginia.
Sheridan's work has been shown, among many group and solo exhibitions and recent exhibitions include, Les Yeux du Monde Gallery in Charlottesville, the Shenandoah Valley Art Center, Blue Ridge Community College's Art Center, The Barn Swallow Gallery, The Crozet Artisan Depot, Hunt Gallery at Mary Baldwin College and the Artisan Center of Virginia. He has been asked to participate in group shows at the Cudahy’s Gallery in Richmond, Virginia, The Lynchburg Fine Arts Center, Sawhill Gallery at James Madison University and the UVA's Medical Center.
